In late November and early December, a team of volunteers reforested Goat Island in the Houston Ship Channel. This large island was swept clear of trees by the flooding with the hurricane.
Workers came from the University of St. Thomas, Trees For Houston, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and the Port of Houston to plant one- and five- gallon trees to combat soil erosion and house wildlife. Houston is the nation’s second largest port, and it has cooperated with us on earlier projects.

In May, we planted sixty live oaks in the Elgin esplanades from Highway 59 to Scott Street.
Located north of the Interstate 10, Houston Heights is being replanted to keep it forested by Keep Heights Green, a tree-roots civic group. We helped it with meetings it goal of planting 100 large-street trees in their first year.
South of the city, to counter the aftermath of Hurricane Ike, Trees For Houston in a partnership with Taylor Lake Village distributed 340 native pines and oaks to replace lost street and park trees.
