Tree Adoptions: Growing Houston, One Tree at a Time
Every tree planted is more than just a root in the ground — it’s shade on a summer day, cleaner air to breathe, and a small but powerful act of care for our city.
At Trees For Houston, our mission is simple yet powerful: to plant, protect, and promote trees. For more than four decades, we’ve worked to transform the urban landscape of Greater Houston.
What was once our Tree Giveaway Program is now our Tree Adoption Program — a name that truly reflects the connection, care, and shared responsibility that come with bringing a tree home.
Where and How They Happen
We host Tree Adoption events at our Kinder Campus and in neighborhoods across Greater Houston.
These events offer Houstonians the opportunity to take home a tree and help grow a healthier, greener city.
Free trees for the community: Events typically offer between 250 and 2,500 trees.
Seasonally planned: Quantities, dates, and species are determined by growing conditions and funding.
Easy registration: All Tree Adoption events require registration, helping us host more events and ensure fair access for everyone.
Partner-Powered Adoptions
You may also see smaller Tree Adoption events hosted by neighborhood groups, precincts, or local partners.
Trees are provided by Trees For Houston.
Event promotion, guidelines, and logistics are led by the hosts.
These pop-up adoptions make it even easier to find a tree near you.
