This annual program will feature classes every Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring.

Join us for our Fall Tree Care, taught by our very own Executive Director, Barry Ward.

• The physiological state of trees during the fall season

• Best practices for maintaining tree health in fall

• Key preparations to ensure your trees thrive throughout the winter months

• Enhance your understanding of tree care and contribute to the well-being of our urban forests!

Discover the important role of bears as forest ecosystem engineers in this environmental education workshop for elementary-aged students. Children ages 6-10 will learn how bears improve the health of forests by dispersing seeds, trimming trees, and spreading marine nutrients. Learners will engage in hands-on activities, beary fun games, a craft, and outdoor exploration. This workshop is a perfect accompaniment to the nationwide celebration of Fat Bear Week!

This is a drop-off class held at Trees for Houston’s Kinder Campus inside the Bauer Education Center. Please bring a reusable water bottle and snack if desired. Further information and a payment link will be provided via email after you secure your child's spot through the sign-up.

Trees For Houston is excited to welcome Rich Sommer from the Texas Master Naturalists and the Moth Posse to our facility!

Join us on September 16th to learn about moths and their important relationship to trees. Following the presentation, Rich Sommer and the Moth Posse will survey the species found at the Trees For Houston facility and tree nursery using UV lights to attract night-flying insects. Come for the education—stay for the species!

This event is open to everyone. The educational presentation will take place from 7:00–8:00 pm, followed by the moth survey from 8:00–10:00 pm. Participants are welcome to come and go as they please after the presentation.

In collaboration with Texas A&M Agrilife Extension, Trees For Houston welcomes speaker Stephanie Gray for the Tree Hurricane Preparedness class!

This program is designed to provide strategies for mitigating tree damage in advance of severe weather events. Led by Stephanie Gray, Horticulture Agent with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension in Harris County, the session emphasizes proactive tree care practices that enhance resilience in urban and residential landscapes. Key topics include the selection of wind-resistant tree species, structural pruning techniques, site-specific planting considerations, and the influence of soil conditions, drought, and climate variability on tree stability. The program targets homeowners, landscape professionals, and municipal planners, offering practical guidance and local resources to support sustainable urban forestry. By fostering preventative maintenance and informed species selection, the workshop aims to reduce storm-related tree failures and promote long-term canopy health across Houston communities.

The class will take place at Trees For Houston; however, there will be a virtual option. For the highest quality option, please attend in person; technical difficulties may occur virtually.

Calling all young artists ages 4-12! Trees For Houston is excited to announce our collaboration with Kid Create Studio for a morning of FREE learning and creativity!

Enroll your child for a morning packed with education and artistic expression. The session will kick off with a brief educational segment about the significance of trees in our environment. Following this, there will be an hour dedicated to fun-filled art activities, where students can craft and take home their very own work of art.

Activities start at 10:30 am, drop-off time is no later than 11:00 am, parents are welcome to stay, but please ensure pickup by 12:15 pm.

In May, our focus will be on fruit trees. Learners will study the life cycle of fruit trees and their strategies for seed dispersal. Students will also conduct a hands-on science experiment using fruit in our outdoor classroom.

Join us to wrap up this Earth Month by learning about composting in this hands-on, informative class led by Robin Yates, a Master Gardener and lead volunteer with Trees For Houston! Robin will guide you through the how-to's of composting while explaining its many benefits. 

 The class will be held from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the Trees For Houston office. The first hour of the class will have a virtual option, however, the last 30 minutes will conclude with an in-person hands-on composting demonstration! Participants will get to see Trees For Houston's tree nursery, complete with composting bins.

In April, our focus will be on the many ways trees help our planet! Learners will be introduced to the carbon cycle as we discuss the vital role of trees in global climate regulation. Following our indoor lesson, we’ll head outside to write nature appreciation poems in celebration of poetry month and Earth Day!

   • A parent or caregiver is required to remain on the Trees for Houston Kinder Campus during the entire hour-long class session.

     • Parents and caregivers have the option to observe the class in action inside the Bauer Education Center. Alternatively, they may wait in the shaded pavilion outside the classroom or on the bench in the office lobby.

2. Supervision of Non-Participants:

   • If additional children are present who are not participating in the class, parents or caregivers are responsible for their supervision at all times to ensure safety. We recommend bringing a light snack or a small activity to help keep them engaged. The Kinder Campus is both a learning environment and an active workplace. We kindly ask all visitors to help us maintain the space by respecting the building and its facilities.

Jason Alfaro has over 20 years of experience in the green industry.  He started his career working for local municipal parks and recreation departments and became the Parks and Recreation Director of various cities throughout Texas.  He has been a certified arborist for over 12 years, received his Tree Risk Assessment Qualification in 2024, and is currently working to obtain his American Society of Consulting Arborist certification.  Jason has been involved in various local boards and committees and was a board member and past president for the International Society of Arboriculture Texas Chapter (ISAT).

You are able to select 2 Trees per registration (any species combination). You may pick up 2 orders per car, if you would like to carpool or pick up for a friend. You may not pick up more than 2 orders per car.

Trees for Houston is excited to offer a tree science class for students ages 6 to 12!

In December, our focus will be dendrochronology! Trees record the story of their lives in annual growth rings. In this class, students will learn how to read the autobiographies of trees as chronicled in the rings of tree cookies.

Weather permitting, we will go on a short nature walk to the Chevron Tree Nursery, so please dress for the outdoors.
